Dr Carlos Garcia-Esperon is a stroke neurologist and early career researcher at John Hunter Hospital. Dr Garcia-Esperon undertook clinical training in Spain, Switzerland and Australia. He completed a dissertation in ischaemic stroke at the University of Bern, and is currently undertaking a PhD program at the University of Newcastle focussing on the implementation of multimodal CT in acute stroke treatment in a telestroke network. He has presented extensively in regional and rural centres in NSW on the role of telethrombolysis in stroke management, educating healthcare practitioners in its role in acute stroke treatment. Despite being in the early stages of his research career, Dr Garcia-Esperon is heavily involved in acute stroke clinical trials and is widely published.
