Professor Geoffrey Donnan AO is Professor of Neurology, University of Melbourne and former Director of The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health. He is a Past-President of the World Stroke Organization and was Chair of the World Congress of Neurology. His major research interest is in ischaemic stroke, both clinical and experimental aspects. He showed that brain tissue could have prolonged survival after stroke and, when salvaged, improved clinical outcomes. He has received a number of prestigious international awards including the William Feinberg Award, World Stroke Organization Leadership Award, Karolinska Institute Award and European Stroke Congress Wepfer Award.
