Interventional neuroradiology Consultant/Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital

  • Dr Kate Mahady is an interventional neuroradiology Consultant at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital where she has worked full time since 2016. She was trained in the UK and completed diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology fellowships across London and in Brisbane before her early consultant INR years in North Bristol. The pull to return to Australia was strong enough to sit the exam and she attained FRANZCR in 2017.
She works closely with 3 INR colleagues in the provision of 24/7 INR services in Brisbane whilst also contributing to the diagnostic neuroradiology and general interventional services. She enjoys an interest in spinal INR, vascular malformations and paediatric neurointervention and is collaborating with the Queensland Children’s Hospital team in the production and implementation of a new Statewide paediatric stroke guideline as well as a more accessible and comprehensive paediatric INR service.
She is a keen educator who provides invited teaching to medical, radiography, nursing and industry personnel on topics including acute stroke physiology and clot retrieval services locally as well as interstate. She participates in and supervises others in conducting clinical research. Her current work includes improving patient safety in imaging programmable shunts, improving outcomes in treatment of spinal dural fistula and improving access to the cavernous sinus via the inferior petrosal sinus – she looks forward to presenting her work internationally this year.
